A local artist donates a stunning picture and raises money for Skills4You

Lorraine Mary Alfaro, a local artist, painted a stunning poppy picture and donated it to our Cleator Moor Community Shop. Everybody who saw it commented on how beautiful it was and the shop staff knew it would be highly sought after.

Lorraine wanted to make sure the charity were able to raise as much money as possible and requested rather than it be sold, it was raffled instead. The shop was only too happy to oblige.

Cleator Moor Community shop is a project run by the local charity Skills4You. The charity run courses and projects that teach unemployed people new skills, allowing them to break down personal barriers so they can overcome obstacles that allows them to go onto their next step on their personal ladder. There are a variety of courses run such as upcycling, woodwork, customer service, personal development, cooking and Goodlives – a 1.6-acre food growing project based in West Lakes Science Park.

Itwasn’t long before the tickets started selling! Quite a few people buying more than one square in the hope they were able to take the artwork home. The computer autogenerated the number, and a lucky buyer was contacted to come and collect her winning painting. The winner, June Walker said “It’s a lovely painting, I’m so chuffed I won. Even better that I could help support a local charity that do so much good work”.

Congratulations June and Thank you to Lorraine for the beautiful piece and helping us raise much needed funds. We hope to see you both in the shop again, soon.
