Report on the Collaboration between Skills4You and Recovery College

The recent collaboration between Skills4You and Recovery College has proven to be a remarkable success, reflecting the positive outcomes of joint efforts from both charities. In June, learners from both organisations attended a one-day course focused on cooking healthy meals on a budget. This event not only provided practical culinary skills but also fostered a sense of community and support among participants.

The one-day course was designed to teach participants how to prepare nutritious meals without exceeding their budget.

The course included –

– Understanding the basics of nutrition and budget-friendly shopping.

– Hands-on cooking sessions guided by experienced tutors.

– Tips and techniques for maximizing the use of affordable ingredients, and how to utilise any leftovers

– Sharing a meal prepared during the session.

– Providing each participant with a meal to take home.

Participants gained valuable cooking skills that enable them to prepare healthy and cost-effective meals. These skills are essential for promoting long-term health and financial well-being. Understanding how to balance nutrition with budget constraints empowers individuals to make better food choices, leading to improved physical health and reduced financial stress. Sharing a meal together fostered a sense of community among participants. This communal experience is vital for mental health, as it provides social support and reduces feelings of isolation. The collaborative environment encouraged learners to share their experiences and support one another, potentially creating lasting connections. Learning to cook and manage a food budget gives the Learners a sense of achievement and self-reliance. Learners left the course with a heightened sense of confidence in their ability to take care of themselves and their families. This empowerment can translate into other areas of life, promoting overall personal growth and self-sufficiency.

It’s always great to collaborate together, this course allowed us both to pool our resources and expertise. reducing duplication of efforts and maximizing the impact of programs. Shared facilities, staff, and materials resulted in cost savings and more efficient service delivery. We were both able to deliver a comprehensive, impactful program and to extend our reach and effectiveness, providing more holistic support to our communities. Participants gained valuable skills, nutritional knowledge, and social connections, while both organizations benefited from enhanced service delivery, resource optimization, and increased community impact. This partnership serves as a model for how charities can work together to achieve great outcomes for all involved.
