Lower Gillerthwaite Field Centre is a young people’s outdoor facility located in Cumbria, renowned for offering experiences in nature, outdoor activities, and learning opportunities. They recently reached out to us following a conversation with NEXUS, an organisation that previously partnered with us on the Goodlives project. This engagement has led to a fruitful collaboration, enhancing their outdoor space.
NEXUS played a pivotal role in supporting the development of our Goodlives site by installing polytunnels and constructing raised beds, allowing us to cultivate produce on-site. This project was aimed at promoting sustainable living and giving our Learners some hands-on work, to allow them to develop skills to enhance their journey to employment. NEXUS’s expertise and commitment set the foundation for the project’s success, and the outcomes have been widely appreciated.
In line with our vision of community involvement and skill development, we saw an opportunity to expand our Works4You handyman scheme through collaboration with Lower Gillerthwaite Field Centre. Works4You, aims to provide practical handyman services to the community, contributing to local projects and offering hands-on experience to our team.
For Lower Gillerthwaite, we designed, crafted, and delivered custom planters. These planters were designed to complement their existing décor. Lower Gillerthwaite Field Centre were really pleased and said they were “over the moon” with the craftsmanship and the support provided by Works4You. This positive feedback highlights the successful collaboration and the impact of our newly launched handyman scheme. The addition of the planters has not only enhanced the visual appeal of their outdoor area but also added functionality, supporting their mission of providing outdoor education learning opportunities for young people. By continuing to work with organisations like NEXUS and Lower Gillerthwaite, we can extend the reach of projects like Goodlives, fostering sustainable living and creating a positive impact on the lives of young people in the community. We look forward to continuing this journey and building on the success of these initiatives.
